Becoming an Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer

Steps to becoming an Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer:
 
Step 1: Meet Experience Requirements

Construction Industry Requirements
Five years of construction safety experience. A college degree in occupational safety and health, a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation, in the applicable training area may be substituted for a total of two years of experience

General Industry Requirements
Five years of general industry safety experience. A college degree in occupational safety and health, a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation, in the applicable training area may be substituted for a total of two years of experience
 
Step 2: Take the corresponding Prerequisite course

Construction Industry Prerequisite Course
     OSHA #510 - Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry

General Industry Prerequisite Course
     OSHA #511 - Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the General Industry
 
Step 3: Proof of Experience/Prerequisites

You MUST fill out the Prerequisite verification form and send it to the Mid-South OTI Education Center before you will be eligible to register for an OSHA Outreach Trainer course. This form is used to verify that all prerequisites and experience have been met by the student. Instructions for sending the form to the Mid-South OTI Education Center are located on the form itself.

Step 4: Take the corresponding Outreach Trainer course

      OSHA #500 - Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for Construction Industry

General Industry Outreach Trainer Course
      OSHA #501 - Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for the General Industry
